Margaret

I was dignosed with breast cancer (IDC invasive ductal carcinoma) at the end of June 2009. It was shocking news for myself, my family and my friends. I  worked 'till July 17 and on July 20 I had my lumpectomy done. Everything healed very nicely but I was anxious for the pathology results. On August 6th, I had an appointment with my surgeon Dr. Ethel MacIntosh. She had 2 bits of news for me one good one - my lymph nodes were negative and the  bad news that a mastectomy must be performed. I was shocked again!  She suggested that I have plastic reconstruction surgery. I had a consultation with Dr. E. Buchel and hia nurse at the Breast Centre of Hope. Based on all the gathered information, talking to friends and family, I made my decision to go for it. I had my second surgery September 8. I'm doing not too badly, despite my husband being overseas with work. I have my kids and friends helping me as much they can by visiting me with food and words of support . I try to go out as much as possible but I know when to take it easy. It is not even 2 weeks since my surgery but I know I have made a good decision. There is a long way to recovery for me. I still might have go through chemotherapy, depending of pathology report. Dr. MacIntosh and Dr. Buchel are great doctors who took great care of me. Thank you! I will be 50 years old next year and I am already planning with my husband a trip to Poland where I was born. I'm looking forward to it!  We all have to stay strong as much we can. I believe God and having hope will help us to beat cancer!
